Jutro na blogu pojawi się post z zapowiedziami, ale tak sobie pomyślałam, że wspomnę wam o jednej serialowej adaptacji, o której z tego co widzę na razie w Polsce jest cicho. Po tytule już wiecie, że chodzi o ,,American Born Chinese", w polskiej wersji językowej ,,Urodzony w Ameryce. Serial miał premierę na Disney+ dwa dni temu i od razu udostępniono wszystkie odcinki.
Serial ,,American Born Chinese" powstał na podstawie powieści graficznej Gene Luena Yanga o tym samym tytule, która z kolei jest uważana za adaptacją klasycznej chińskiej powieści ,,Journey to the West" autorstwa Wu Cheng'en z XVI w.
Powieść graficzna została wydana w 2006 r. Studia filmowe z Hollywood po raz pierwszy zainteresowały się książką Yanga w 2007 roku ze względu na zbliżające się Igrzyska Olimpiskie w Pekinie w 2008 r. Autor sam zdaweał sobie sparwę z trudności zaadaptowania swojej powieści graficznej. Dopiero w 2021 r. Disney+ zamówiło serial na podstawie powieści graficznej Yanga. Jednym z reżyserów został Destin Daniel Cretton niecały miesiąc pod debiuciu filmu ,,Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings". Lucy Liu wyreżyserowała odcinek.
Kelvin Yu i jego brat Charles Yu zostali zostali zatrudnieni jako scenarzyści serii. Azjatycko-amerykańscy projektanci mody Prabal Gurung i Phillip Lim dołączyli do produkcji w kwietniu 2022 roku, aby pracować u boku projektantki kostiumów Joy Cretton.
Zdjęcia trwały pieć miesięcy, rozpoczęły się na początku 2022 r. Główne zdjęcia kręcono w Los Angeles i ALtadena. Większość ujęć. W produkcji wykorzystano lokację kilku popularniejszych zabytków, między innymi: Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Griffith Park, La Brea Tar Pits, Los Angeles Zoo, Muzeum Historii Naturalnej w Los Angeles i Arboretum.
